Men’s Cross Country: Tassey Takes Second Regional Title, Evans Earns All-Region Honors, Hawks Place Eighth at Mideast Regional Championships

CANTON, N.Y. – The Roger Williams University Men's Cross Country team placed eighth overall at the NCAA Division III Mideast Regional Championships on the Ronald C. Hoffmann Cross Country Course, hosted by St. Lawrence.

The Hawks tallied 221 points finishing two points behind Connecticut College, who tallied 21. The Hawks out paced Vassar by 47 total points, while RPI Williams and Middlebury took the top three spots respectively, with 44, 95, and 104 points respectively.

Nathan Tassey (Whitman, Mass.) secured his spot at the NCAA Division III Cross Country National Championships, finishing first with a total time of 25:05.5 for his second straight Mideast Regional title. After finishing his opening mile sitting in 12th, Tassey was able to crawl to the top spot slowly throughout the race, landing in second after the third mile. Tassey cleared the field by six seconds, before Nicholas Lyndaker of St. Lawrence placed second.

Nathan Evans (Lincoln, R.I.) was the second runner to cross after finishing 31st overall with a 25:46.4 time. Evans sat at 22nd after the second mile, but the Hawks No. 2 runner finished 14.9 off his collegiate best time. Evans and Tassey both earned All-Region Honors, finishing inside the top 35. This was Tassey's third All-Region honor and Evans second.

Justin Dickson (Londonderry, N.H.) and Harrison Krause (Glastonbury, Conn.) finished 57th and 65th respectively for the Hawks, with times of 26:53.0 and 27:12.4. Colin Czuchra (Oxford, Conn.) was the fifth runner to cross for the Hawks, rounding out scoring, posting a 27:14.5 time to finish 67th.

Kyle Tarpy (Haverhill, Mass.) and Ryan Cotugno (Melrose, Mass.) were the sixth and seventh runner to cross the finish line. Tarpy posted a 27:17.0 time finishing 3.2 ahead of Eastern Connecticut State's Zach D'Andrea, while Cotugno ran the course in 27:47.0 to round out the Hawks runners.

Roger Williams will await selections for the NCAA Division III Cross Country National Championships, to be announced on Sunday, Nov. 16.
