The Roger Williams University Equestrian team took to Mystic Valley Hunt Club on Saturday for a doubleheader competition, in which the team placed fourth and fifth overall.
The day's first show, the URI-hosted IHSA show, opened with the Open Division events in which
Leah Petricca (Pittsfield, Mass.) was unfortunately unable to earn a placing to aid the Hawks' team score.
Moving on to the Intermediate classes in the first show,
Alexandra Macdonald (Norwood, Mass.) rode for the Hawks, earning a fifth-place ribbon in the over-fences portion of the division and a second place in the flat class, collectively earning seven points for the team's score.
In the Limit division, freshman
Lindsey Savoie (Tolland, Conn.) competed to a third-place finish in the over-fences class, earning four points toward the team score. Savoie then competed in the flat portion of the division for the Hawks as well, finding a third-place finish worth another four points for the team.
For the final division of the first show, the Hawk's
Nina DeGrandi (Berlin, Conn.) rode in the Novice division, earning a fourth-place finish for the Hawks and adding the final three points to the team's score for this show.
In the second event of the day, the Community Show, the Hawks kicked of with DeGrandi in the Novice division once again, running the show in reverse class order. DeGrandi earned a fifth-place finish for the team, worth two points for the team score.
The Hawks sent Macdonald back in for the Intermediate classes in the second show, this time earning a fourth-place finish in the flat portion and second-place finish in the over-fences portion, worth a collective eight points for the team score. Petricca also represented the Hawks in the Open Division once again, but unfortunately was unable to earn any more points for the team.
The Hawks will next face the IHSA Zone 1 Region 1 Regionals competition on Sunday, March 16th at Hunter Ridge in Ashaway, R.I. where this season's qualifying riders will compete for their chance to represent the Hawks at the IHSA Zone 1 competition on April 6th.
