Box Score MILTON, MASS. – The Roger Williams University men's lacrosse team put on a dominant performance on the road, securing a commanding 15-4 victory over Curry College in Conference of New England (CNE) action on Saturday afternoon.
The Hawks set the tone early with a strong first quarter, jumping out to a 6-0 lead. The offensive firepower continued in the second quarter, where Roger Williams extended its lead with six more goals, heading into halftime with a comfortable 12-1 advantage. Leading the offensive charge was Matt Hemmert (Braintree, Mass.), who tallied a game-high five goals and an assist. Matt Kennedy (Cumberland, Maine) was also a key contributor, recording four goals and an assist aswell. Jack Kester (Londonderry, N.H.) chipped in having six assists providing multiple goal-scoring opportunities for the Hawks throughout the game.
Roger Williams controlled the faceoffs, with David Rizzo (Methuen, Mass.) winning 11 draws, giving the Hawks. Their ability to dominate ground balls, having 32 compared to the Colonels 25, and transition efficiently played a pivotal role in their success. Defensively, Roger Williams was just as dominant, holding Curry to only four goals. Goalkeeper Aaron D'Aversa (Sea Cliff, N.Y.) was a rock in net, making nine saves to keep Curry's offense at bay.
Roger Williams (5-6, 1-1 CNE) will now turn their heads towards their next conference matchup, against Gordon on Tuesday, April 1st at 7:00 pm in Wenham, Mass.
