Sailing: Hawks Finish Day One of Finals in 16th

ST. MARY'S CITY, Md. – The Roger Williams University Sailing team sits 16th after the opening day of the Women's Fleet Racing National Championships hosted by St. Mary's (Md.).
 
The Hawks compiled 75 points through six races on the opening day, three for each division. Tulane leads the way with 27 total points, while Georgetown and Brown are tied with 38 points total for the day.
 
In Division A, the Hawks sit 10th with 28 points, compiled from Lucy Meagher and Maren Matthews, tied with Dartmouth, while currently holding the tiebreaker. In race 1A, the Hawks placed ninth, before improving to seventh in the second race of their day. Meagher and Matthews had 12 points added, finishing the day tied with Dartmouth.
 
In Division B, the Hawks saw Tavia Smith, Elyssa Franklin, and Jancy Grayson finish with 47 points, rounding out the division. Roger Williams earned a 14th-place finish but saw themselves dissolve throughout the day, finishing 16th and 17th, respectively.
 
The Hawks will be on the water on Friday for the final day of sailing.
