ST. MARY'S CITY, Md. – The Roger Williams University Open Fleet Race Sailing Team ended their season on Wednesday, finishing 11
th in the Open East Semifinal.
Roger Williams compiled 169 points over two divisions finishing five points behind Cornell for 10
th, and 12 points outside of qualifying for the National Championship behind Hobart and William Smith. The Hawks earned 103 points in Division A and Division B added 66 points.
In Division A,
Carlos Bermudez de Castro and
Carly Kiss combined for 46 points on the opening day of racing, but opened day two with three straight finishes in the top half of the field. After finishing seventh, eighth, and fifth, the Hawks then saw an 11
th and 10
th place finish, before wrapping up with a 16
th place finish in the final race.
In Division B, the Hawks placed sixth, compiling 66 points.
Kyle Pfrang and
Claire Buckley sailed to tie Harvard for fifth but fell due to a tiebreaker. After sailing to 26 points on the opening day, the Hawks then earned seven points before back-to-back fifth-place finishes. The Hawks then earned a ninth place finish, before the duo posted a pair of top three finishes before wrapping up the regatta with a ninth place finish.
This concludes the Hawks Open Fleet Racing Season.
