Hall of Fame: 2014 Women's Soccer Celebrated Ahead of Induction to RWU Hall of Fame

BRISTOL, R.I. – The 2014 Roger Williams University women's soccer team will be inducted into the RWU Athletics Hall of Fame as part of its 10th class on Friday, Oct. 16, during Homecoming and Family Weekend.

Under head coach Tim Moody, the Hawks finished 19-3-4, captured the Commonwealth Coast Conference championship and advanced to the NCAA Division III Tournament's third round for the first time in program history. Their 19 victories matched the school's single-season record.

"The 2014 Women's Soccer team will forever be remembered as one of the greatest teams in Roger Williams University athletics history," said Moody. "As the head coach of this special group, I am incredibly proud of what we accomplished together, and although I am unfortunately unable to be present for this special occasion, I am honored to see this team inducted into the 2026 RWU Hall of Fame."

Roger Williams put together a 21-match unbeaten streak during the season, going 17-0-4 from Sept. 6 through the NCAA Tournament's second round. The stretch included a dramatic conference championship and consecutive NCAA Tournament shutouts.

The Hawks secured their fifth CCC championship on Nov. 8 against Wentworth Institute of Technology. Trailing late in regulation, Kristin Tetreault scored with 21 seconds remaining to force overtime. Following a 1-1 draw, Roger Williams prevailed 4-1 in the penalty kick shootout to claim the title and earn the conference's automatic NCAA Tournament berth.

Roger Williams opened NCAA Tournament play with a 3-0 victory over Bowdoin College on Nov. 15 in Cambridge, Mass. Jessica Valenti scored the opening goal before Mariah Kaiser added two goals to send the Hawks into the second round.

The following afternoon, the Hawks earned a historic 1-0 double-overtime victory over No. 24 MIT. Haley Carignan scored off a feed from Kaiser at 101:27, securing the program's first trip to the Sweet 16. Sydney Martin made four saves as Roger Williams recorded its second shutout of the weekend.

The postseason run concluded with a 3-2 loss at Williams College on Nov. 22. The Hawks battled until the closing moments, with Kaiser scoring a late equalizer before Williams netted the deciding goal with 46 seconds remaining.

"It was the character, commitment, resilience, selflessness, and belief in one another that defined us," said Moody. "We had a group of student-athletes who embraced the challenge, worked tirelessly for each other, and understood that our greatest achievements came from what we built together as a team. The championship, the record, and the national recognition were the results of that collective spirit."

Moody also credited assistant coach Lindsay Bruno for her role in the team's success, reflecting on their 13-year coaching partnership and the contributions of the staff and supporters throughout the journey.

"What I remember most fondly is not simply how many games we won, but the relationships we developed, the standards we established, and the memories we created along the way," said Moody. "I am immensely proud of every player who contributed to that journey, along with the staff and supporters who believed in us."

With a conference title, a school-record-tying victory total and a breakthrough NCAA Tournament appearance, the 2014 team authored one of the most accomplished seasons in Roger Williams women's soccer history.

The team joins Mark Mastin '92 of men's volleyball, J. Michael Lynch '01 of men's basketball, Jenny (Dill) Okubo '07 of women's swimming and diving and Matt Duggan '09 of sailing in the 2026 induction class. The Hall of Fame celebration will take place at the Mario J. Gabelli School of Business, beginning with a reception at 5:30 p.m.
