WARWICK, R.I. — The Roger Williams University men's golf team placed sixth overall at the RIC Spring Invitational, hosted at Valley Country Club on April 17, finishing with a two-day total of 624 (+48).
The Hawks improved significantly from the opening round, shaving eight strokes off their day-one score with a 308 (+20) in the final round after posting a 316 (+28) to open the tournament.
Will Lafrance led Roger Williams with a tie for 10th-place finish, carding a two-round total of 152 (+8). Lafrance opened with a 78 before improving to a 74 in the second round to secure the team's top individual result.
Gianni Fontenault followed with a tie for 23rd-place finish at 157 (+13), improving by three strokes between rounds (80-77).
The Hawks placed three golfers in a tight cluster just behind, as Patrick Forbes and Joel Collins each tied for 27th with identical scores of 158 (+14), while Dante Hardt finished tied for 31st at 159 (+15).
Roger Williams competed against a nine-team field that included tournament champion Wesleyan (CT), which finished at 597 (+21), and runner-up Suffolk at 600 (+24).
