BRISTOL, R.I. - The No. 4 seed in the Conference of New England (CNE) Tournament, Roger Williams University, is set to open its conference tournament run against No. 5 Wentworth Institute of Technology on Bayside Field Saturday, April 25th, at 7:00 pm.
The No. 5 Leopards come in with an 8-7 overall record, going 4-5 in CNE play. Wentworth ended their regular season at Hartford, losing 9-15 to the Hawks.
The Hawks enter the CNE tournament with an 8-9 record on the year while going 6-3 in CNE action. The Hawk's latest contest was a 15-5 win over Johnson and Wales on Wednesday, Apr. 22.
Wentworth's offense is led by Tony Corrado who leads the Leopards with 35 goals on the season, dishing out 12 assists for 47 total points. Gabe Cobham is a key contributor with 34 goals and 14 assists on the season, while Brendan Kroll has produced 30 goals and 21 assists.
Taking the faceoff for the Leopards, Keegan Buffa holds a 157-311 record on the season. Defensively, Buffa has 68 ground balls, while Chuck Urda has 56 ground balls and has caused 22 turnovers.
Roger Williams is led by Freshman phenom Caleb McKeown (Plymouth, Mass.), who lead the Hawks with 28 goals on the season to go with 34 points. Reece Moore (Marblehead, Mass) and Carter Shelton (Castle Rock, Colo.) are also key contributors, scoring 18 and 17 goals respectively on the season. Connor Russell () leads the team with 13 assists while Shelton is close behind with 11 assists.
David Rizzo (Methuen, Mass.) has been solid at faceoffs for the Hawks this season, going 131-264 on the season. Defensively, Kyle Zirn (Derry, N.H.) has scooped up 78 ground balls on the season while logging 47 caused turnovers.
Wentworth will likely turn to sophomore goalie A.J. Smith, who leads the goalies with 15 starts and games played. Smith has made 154 saves on the season and has a save percentage of .486.
The Hawks will likely rely on their senior goalie, Aaron D'Aversa (Sea Cliff, N.Y.) who leads the goalie group with 14 games played and 10 games started. Roger Williams went a strong 6-5 with D'Aversa in net. He also leads the team in saves with a 117 on the season and has a save percentage of .547, the best out of the Hawks starting goalies.
