Men's Track & Field: Tassey Places First, Sits 11th Ahead of Updated Rankings

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — Roger Williams senior Nathan Tassey (Whitman, Mass.) delivered a statement performance Friday night, winning the men's 5,000-meter run against a loaded field at the Williams Farley-Inter Regional Extraviganza, with a time of 14:04.40.

Competing against runners from nationally-ranked Division III programs including Amherst, MIT, Williams, Wesleyan, and RPI, Tassey surged to the front late and closed the race with a remarkable final lap, clocking a 59.91-second split over the last 400 meters to edge Amherst's Stan Craig by less than a second. Craig finished second in 14:05.16.

Tassey ran near the lead pack throughout the race, consistently positioning himself among the top three runners through each split. After sitting second at the 3,800-meter mark, the Roger Williams runner reclaimed the lead at 4,200 meters and never surrendered it, using his finishing speed to separate himself down the stretch.

The victory adds another milestone to an already standout season for Tassey, whose 14:04.40 mark sputs him at 11th nationally in the race ahead of the updated TFRRS rankings.
