BRUNSWICK, Maine — Max St. Aubin (Brewster, Mass.) fired a final-round 70 (-2) to finish tied for seventh as the Roger Williams University Men's Golf team competed at the Bowdoin Invitational at Brunswick Golf Club.
The Hawks tied for 14th in the 16-team field with a three-round total of 911 (+47), posting rounds of 306, 299 and 306 on the par-72, 6,601-yard course. New York University captured the team title at 16-over par, followed by Middlebury at 22-over and Tufts at 24-over.
St. Aubin finished with a 218 (+2), opening with a 73 (+1) before carding a 75 (+3) in the second round. In his opening round, he recorded three birdies during a bogey-free back nine of 32 (-3). He closed the tournament with four birdies in his final round, including birdies on Nos. 1, 3, 6 and 8, to shoot a 34 (-3) on the front nine.
Sammy Johnson (West Springfield, Mass.) and Reid Ohanesian (Shirley, Mass.) tied for 40th with matching totals of 228 (+12). Johnson improved each round, following a 77 (+5) with a 76 (+4) and a 75 (+3). Ohanesian posted rounds of 77 (+5), 73 (+1) and 78 (+6), leading Roger Williams during the second round.
Chris Locke (Marblehead, Mass.) finished tied for 74th with a 239 (+23), recording rounds of 79 (+7), 77 (+5) and 83 (+11). Josh Peterson (Goffstown, N.H.) tied for 85th at 246 (+30), shooting 83 (+11), 75 (+3) and 88 (+16).
Peterson's eight-stroke improvement in the second round helped the Hawks register their lowest team score of the tournament. He birdied Nos. 10, 12 and 13 en route to a 34 (-1) on the back nine.
