BEVERLY, Mass. — The Conference of New England announced Tuesday afternoon that Roger Williams University sophomore goalkeeper Ava Boenig (Norwich, Conn.) has been named the CNE Women's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week following a strong start to the 2026 season.

Boenig Opens Season With Shutout

Boenig opened the season in impressive fashion, playing all 90 minutes in goal during Roger Williams' 7-0 victory over Saint Joseph (Conn.) on September 1.

The sophomore goalkeeper made one save while recording a shutout as the Hawks opened the campaign with a convincing victory.

Three Saves in Scoreless Draw

Boenig continued her strong play in the Hawks' home opener against Regis on September 3.

The Norwich, Conn. native played all 90 minutes and made three saves as Roger Williams battled Regis to a 0-0 draw at Bayside Field.

Boenig Helps Hawks Secure Another Clean Sheet

Boenig once again helped keep the opposition off the scoreboard against Emerson on September 6.

She played 40:10 in the scoreless draw and did not allow a goal, helping the Hawks remain unbeaten through their first three contests.

Through the opening three games, Boenig has played 220:10 minutes without allowing a goal, posting a 0.00 goals-against average and a 1.000 save percentage with four saves.

Strong Start Earns Weekly Recognition

Boenig's consistent play between the posts has helped the Hawks open the 2026 campaign without a loss, recording one victory and two draws while keeping the opposition off the scoreboard in all three contests.

Her performances earned her the CNE Women's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week honor, marking the first weekly conference recognition of her sophomore campaign.
