BRISTOL, R.I.- RWU freshman Kaare Stokdal (Olive Bridge, N.Y.) earned Pilgrim League Rookie of the Week honors after posting a 3-0 record Saturday afternoon, leading the Hawks to three straight victories.
Wrestling at 125, Stokdal needed just 2:07 to tally 18 points in three matches, beginning with a win by fall at 0:43 over Bridgewater State College opponent Dan Palmer. In the team's second match of the day against the University of Southern Maine, the Huskies offered up no opponent, giving Stokdal a forfeit win and another six points for the Hawks. Finally, RWU battled American International College which began with Stokdal's pin just 1:24 into the action.
The three wins improve Stokdal's record to 16-8 overall. He currently ranks second in the Pilgrim League for most wins and also for most pins (7). His 28 points in dual meets leads the entire Hawks' squad.
Stokdal and the team return to action Jan. 5th, when they travel to Williamstown, Mass., to compete in the Williams College Invitational, beginning at 9 a.m.
