BRISTOL, R.I. – The Roger Williams University Men's Tennis team opened up the fall portion of the 2010-11 season Sunday afternoon, dropping an 8-1 decision to Tufts University.

Spencer Withington (Plymouth, Mass.) and Nicholas Hawvermale (Bethlehem, Conn.) earned the only point on the day for the Hawks with an 8-6 win over Andrew McHugh and Joe Lam at #3 doubles.

At the other two doubles matches, the Hawks fell by identical 8-2 scores, with Kevin Erikson (Tolland, Conn.) and Dan Kleitz (Wethersfield, Conn.) losing at #1 to Ben Barad and Andrew Lutz, and Jeff DeNunzio (Barrington, R.I.) and Jason Pacino (North Reading, Mass.) dropping their #2 match to Mark Westerfield and Morrie Bossen.

In singles play, Lutz downed DeNunzio 6-2, 6-2 at #1 while Barad took down Erikson 6-0, 6-4 at #2. Kleitz fell 6-2, 6-4 to Westerfield at the third flight and Pacino lost 6-1, 6-1 to Morrie Bossen at #4. McHugh defeated Withington 6-2, 6-0 at #5, while Nate Rohman (Topham, Maine) rounded out singles play with a 6-0, 6-0 loss to Jake Lazarus at #6.

Roger Williams will be at Babson College on Friday for a 3:30 p.m. match, while Tufts (1-0) will take part in the ITA Division III Regional Championships on Friday.
