Softball slides against UW-Platteville and Skidmore

KISSIMMEE, Fla. – The Roger Williams University dropped two more games down in Florida with a 2-6 loss to the University of Wisconsin-Platteville and a 2-9 loss to Skidmore College.

In the first game, Wisconsin-Platteville opened the contest with three runs in the top of the first, followed by another run scored in the second. The Hawks put their first run on the board in the bottom of the third and added another in the fourth, but the Pioneers brought home two more runner in the fifth to hold on for the 6-2 win.

Jaclyn Doolin (Miller Place, N.Y.) went the distance for the Hawks, allowing all six runs (two earned) in seven innings. Lauren Tierney (Middleboro, Mass.) went 2-for-3 for the Hawks in the game with a run scored. Natasha Stone (Harrison, N.Y.) added a run scored for RWU.

In the game against Skidmore, the Thoroughbreds struck first, putting a run across in the bottom of the first The Hawks took a brief lead in the third, getting two scores to take a 2-1 advantage. Yet Skidmore responded in the bottom of the frame with five runs to go back on top 6-2. The Thoroughbreds would add two more in the fifth and one more in the sixth en route to the win.

Kelly Marcin (Windsor Locks, N.Y.) allowed six runs (three earned) in 2.1 innings, with Stacy Broughton (Newtown, Conn.) giving up three runs (one earned) in 3.2 innings of relief. Sarah Grill (Watervliet, N.Y.) went 2-for-4 with a run scored, while Hannah Pirez (Bolton, Conn.) went 1-for-2 with two RBI.

Roger Williams (1-7) closes out the spring break trip against the University of Wisconsin-River Falls and Springfield College.
