KISSIMMEE, Fla. – The Roger Williams University Softball team could not win its final two games in Florida, as the Hawks fell 0-4 to the University of Wisconsin-River Falls and 1-13 to Springfield College.
In the first game against UW-River Falls, both teams were locked into a pitcher's duel over the first six innings, as no team could manage a run. That would change in the top of the seventh when the Falcons notched all four of their runs in the inning, three of which came via a home run.
Jaclyn Doolin (Miller Place, N.Y.) started the game for RWU and pitched her best game of the young season, throwing six scoreless innings with seven strikeouts. Stacy Broughton (Newtown, Conn.) took the loss for RWU, allowing the four runs (two earned) in the seventh. Sarah Grill (Watervliet, N.Y.) and Hannah Pirez (Bolton, Conn.) each went 1-for-3 for the Hawks.
Against Springfield College, the Pride offense surged against the Hawks, scoring at least one run in every inning. Springfield's big inning came in the bottom of the second when the Pride plated eight runners to go up by a 10-0 margin. The Hawks scored their lone run of the game in the top of the fourth en route to the five-inning loss.
Marcin dropped the decision for RWU, tagged for ten runs (seven earned) in two innings of work. Laura McConnell (Lexington, Mass.) made her first appearance of the year in the circle, giving up three unearned runs in two innings. Erica Castro (Medford, N.Y.) went 1-for-2 with a run scored while Kara Lewis (Taunton, Mass.) added a hit and an RBI.
Roger Williams (1-9) hosts Coast Guard Academy on Tuesday afternoon at 3:30 p.m. in the team's home opener.
