Wrestling Defeats Southern Maine

BRISTOL, R.I. – The Roger Williams University seniors Shane Parcel (Pine Brook, N.J.) and Philip Ernst (Succasunna, N.J.) earned key victories late in the match to lead the Roger Williams University Hawks to a 22-21 win over the University of Southern Maine Huskies in a Pilgrim League wrestling match Wednesday evening at Hill Gym in Gorham, Maine.

The win is the second straight for the Hawks who improve to 13-7 overall. Southern Maine dips to 13-7 with the loss and sees its two-match win streak come to an end.

Trailing 15-12, Parcel, wrestling at 184 pounds, pinned Husky junior Kyle Gallant (Mexico, Maine/Mountain Valley) in 1:08 to score a critical six points for the Hawks and give his team an 18-15 lead. With the match still up for grabs heading into the 197 pound match, Ernst then earned a major decision victory over Southern Maine sophomore Sean Fagan (Arlington, Mass.) 8-0, scoring four points and putting the match out of reach for the Huskies in the final bout.
