Men's Lacrosse use quick start to put away Lasell

Box Score BRISTOL, R.I. – The Roger Williams University Men's Lacrosse used a diverse attack against Lasell College on Wednesday afternoon, picking up their second victory of the season. Nine different players scored for the Hawks as they went on to beat the Lasers 12-4.

The Hawks opened quickly scoring on their first possession at the 14:08 mark after a costly Lasell penalty. The goal by sophomore Tim Kelly (Ridgefield, Conn.) came on a Caleb Kenney (Portland, Maine) assist, which sparked the momentum for a very successful first quarter, ending in a 6-0 Hawk lead.

Another Lasell penalty with 11:25 left in the quarter resulted in another quick goal by Will Siefert (Duxbury, Mass.) on a Mike Hanna (Somers, Conn.) assist at the 10:29 mark.

As Lasell struggled to get the ball into their offensive zone, Roger Williams continued to take advantage and scored again with 7:49 left in the quarter as Kelly found the back of the net for his second goal of the quarter.

Just five seconds later, after winning the face off, senior Alan Williams (Bristol, R.I.) took control of the possession and scored again for the Hawks putting them up 4-0.

The Hawks continued to be aggressive on their attack as Hanna assisted another goal by freshman John Mills (Cohasset, Mass.) at the 7:16 mark, which would give them a 5-0 advantage going into the second half of the quarter.

After a few missed chances for the Hawks late in the quarter, a time out to get them back on track resulted in a Lasell turnover and a quick goal by Jon Nessa (Concord, Mass.) to put them up by six going into the second quarter.

The Hawks came into the second period with the same spark they opened the game with as Mills found junior Cameron Signorelli (Albany, N.Y.) for another Hawk goal three minutes into the quarter.

After a Lasell turnover, Signorelli assisted freshman John Lisitano (Guilford, Conn.) on a goal, which gave the Hawks an 8-0 advantage with 10:45 left in the half.

After a tough quarter and a half, Lasell notched their first goal at the 7:54 mark of the second on a Casey Sullivan (Waterford, Conn.) assist to freshman Josh Gallant (Hampstead, NH). At this point the Hawks cooled down and Lasell goalie Chris Thomas-Ilkier (Burlington, Mass.) stepped up his game making a few key saves.

The second half began in the Hawks favor again after Hanna scored on an assist from Kenney at the 13:55 mark.

Lasell continued to struggle on offense as their shots were high and wide and the Hawks defense continued to swarm them.

Freshman Michael Pratt (Forestdale, Mass.) would score another one for the Hawks to put them up 10-1 halfway through the third quarter, but Lasell had a quick answer on a Dylan Fernandes (Billerica, Mass.) goal.

The Fernandes goal would be the final of the quarter as the start of the fourth began with a 10-2 Hawk lead.

The Hawks continued to cool off in the final quarter of play, but were able to capitalize two more times, once at the 11:47 mark on a Kelly goal and again with 5:46 left to play as Mills scored to give the Hawks their final goal and put them up 12-2.

Lasell was also able to notch in two more goals late in the game as junior Mike Dupont (Dover, NH) and Sullivan scored.

Lasell's efforts would prove to come too late, as Roger Williams was able to hold them off for the final four minutes ending the game with a 12-4 win.

The scoring was spread out for the Hawks, as Kelly would finish the game with a hat trick scoring three goals. Mills finished with 2, Siefert, Hanna, Nessa, Pratt, Williams, Lisitano, and Signorelli all contributed one in the victory.

Sophomore Nick Gagon finished the game with two assists, as did Hanna, Kenney, and Siefert.

Sullivan finished the game with one goal and one assist for the Lasers.

The Hawks (2-1) will travel to Swarthmore, Pennsylvania for their next game on March 12th.  Lasell plays at home in a 2:30 p.m. match up against Norwich on Saturday, March 8th.
