Men’s Lacrosse gets big win on Senior Day

Box Score BRISTOL, R.I. – The Roger Williams University Men's Lacrosse team collected its eighth straight victory Saturday afternoon, defeating Wentworth Institute of Technology 19-7 in Commonwealth Coast Conference action.
 
Prior to the contest, the Hawks honored the 11 seniors on the team, Mike Hanna (Somers, Conn.), Garrett Ficara (Somers, Conn.), Derrick DaRosa (Brunswick, Maine), Patrick Holland (Wilton, Conn.), Jordan Nachowitz (Ridgefield, Conn.), Alex Peebles (Guilderland, N.Y.), Kevin Nash (Scituate, Mass.), Jordan Marshall (Mountain Lakes, N.J.), Luke Aubrey (Norwalk, Conn.), Cameron Signorelli (Albany, N.Y.), and Mark Fesenmeyer (Norwalk, Conn.).
 
Roger Williams opened the game with three straight goals. Hanna scored a minute into the contest, while Tim Kelly (Ridgefield, Conn.) and Nick Gagnon (Milton, Mass.) tallied scores for a 3-0 Hawk lead.
 
The Leopards answered right back with three straight goals of their own. Kevin Butler (Jefferson, Mass.) got the first goal of the game for Wentworth, followed by scored from Michael Cushera (Waltham, Mass.) and Nick Parent (Windham, N.H.).
 
Those would be the last goals for the Leopards until the third period. Roger Williams' Patrick Holland, AJ Core (Syosset, N.Y.), and Max Cammarota (Redding, Conn.) each scored to close out the first quarter and build the Hawk lead back to three. Then in the second half, the Hawks outscored Wentworth 6-0, taking a commanding 12-3 lead into halftime.
 
In the third quarter Ryan Coakley (Flemington, N.J.) and Cushera notched back-to-back man-up goals to begin the period for the Leopards. THe Hawks would respond with four goals in the final seven minutes of the quarter, taking a 17-6 advantage into the final period.
 
The fourth quarter saw Doug Brown (New York, N.Y.) and Signorelli notch goals for RWU, while Coakley scored the final goal of the game for Wentworth.
 
Aubrey made 14 saves for the Hawks in the win, while Peebles had five saves, playing the final quarter. Kelly, Gagnon, Hanna, and Brown all finished with three points (2 G, 1 A).
 
Adam Dufault (Lexington, Mass.) had eight saves for the Leopards in the loss. Coakely had four points on three goals and an assist, while Cushera scored twice.
 
On Tuesday, Roger Williams (10-3, 4-1 CCC) heads to Western New England, while Wentworth (7-5, 3-3 CCC) goes to Salve Regina.
