Women’s and Men’s Track & Field win second straight CCC Championship

PORTSMOUTH, R.I. - For the second consecutive year, the Roger Williams University Women's and Men's Track & Field teams each claimed the Commonwealth Coast Conference Championship.
 
The women's team earned a 33-point margin of victory over runner-up Salve Regina, while the men's team bested second-place Gordon College by 60 points.
 
Becky Kulak (Southington, Conn.) was responsible for 40 of the Hawks' points on the day, notching three individual wins in the 200 Meter Dash (26.65), the High Jump (4' 11"/1.49m), and a school-record 12.82 in the 100 Meter Dash.
 
In addition, she was a part of two winning relay teams. Kulak, Samantha LeDonne (Wakefield, R.I.), Aliya Lewis (Smithtown, N.Y.), and Caralyn Logan (Shrewsbury, Mass.) won the 4x100 Meter Relay in 50.87. Kulak then teamed with Makayla D'Urso (Londonderry, N.H.), Haylee Kurkoski (Warren, R.I.), and Jacqueline Wyka (East Hampstead, N.H.) for first place in the 4x400 Meter Relay in 4:13.01.  
 
Three other Hawks earns wins on the day for Roger Williams. D'Urso set a new school record in the 800 Meter Run, winning the event with a time of 2:22.23. Lewis also broke her own school in the Pole Vault, clearing 9' 6" (2.89m). Logan took the top spot in the Long Jump with a distance of 15' 2" (4.62m).
 
Kim Noble (Ridgewood, N.J.) took third in the Javelin Throw, going for a distance of 94' 9" (28.88m), while Kirsten Hansen (Framingham, Mass.) placed fourth in the Discus Throw (76'/23.17m).
 
On the men's side, the Hawks won first place in 12 events on the day. Ryan Rotondo (Cranston, R.I.) clinched the victory in the 100 Meter Dash in 11.36 and the 200 Meter Dash, just edging his own school record by .01 seconds with a time of 23.24.
 
Tim McGowan (Northport, N.Y.) set a new RWU mark in the 5000 Meter Run, winning the event in 15:32.16 and beating the previous record by three seconds. Dustin
 
John Christopher earned the win in the 800 Meter Run in 2:00.60, while Wade (Smithtown, N.Y.) also claimed a victory, winning the 400 Meter Hurdles in 58.63.
 
Ian Mitchell (West Newbury, Mass.) swept the High Jump, Long Jump, and Triple Jump with respective distances of 6' 2.5" (1.89m), 20' 10.5" (6.36m), and 44' 1" (13.43m).
 
The Hawks' Ben Arcabascio (Shrewsbury, Mass.), Evan Sommerich (Norton, Mass.), and Chad O'Neil (Shrewsbury, Mass.) took the top three spots in the Javelin Throw, heaving respective tosses of 160' 6" (48.93m), 154' (46.94m), and 152' (46.33m).
