BRISTOL, R.I. - The Roger Williams University Sailing team participated in four regattas over the weekend, October 14 and 15, including a first and third place win.

The Hawks won the Franklin Lane Trophy this past weekend. The event, hosted by Tufts University, welcomed six schools. The Hawks won seven races and only lost one.
Daniel Petrovic (Tortola, BVI),
Spencer Cartwright (Nassau, Bahamas),
Peter Neal (Manhattan Beach, Calif.),
Tyler Killion (Dallas, Texas) and Dane Pederson (Chanhassen, Minn.) sailed for the winning Hawks. These sailors defeated Tufts University, University of Rhode Island, Boston College, Yale University twice and Boston University twice in one-on-one matchups on their way to a first-place finish. Their only loss came against Boston College in the first round.

Hosted by Dartmouth College, the Captain Hurst Bowl invited 18 schools to race on a windy Sunday morning. The Hawks took third place, only coming in behind Yale University and Dartmouth College. Only two points separated the Hawks from Dartmouth. In A Division,
Jennifer Agell (Huntington, N.Y.) and
Martim Anderson (Lisbon, Portugal) raced their way to a second-place finish. They grabbed a first-place finish in the fifth race and two second-place finishes in the second and ninth races. Their overall score was a 48.
Conner Harding (Naples, Fla.) and
Emily Gildea (Palos Park, Ill.) took fourth out of 18 in the B Division. Their second-place finish in race six and two third-place finishes in races two and nine pushed them to an overall score of 53. The Hawks, represented by
Preston Duclos (Westport. Mass.) and
Kylie Freitas (Escondido, Calif.), grabbed a 10
th place finish in Division C. They grabbed three fourth-place finishes and two seventh-place finishes which helped their score jump to a 74.

In the NEISA Match Race Championships, which was hosted by MIT, the Hawks took a seventh place finish out of eight teams. Boston College's junior-packed squad took the top spot on the day. The Hawks only outscored the Northeastern University Huskies.

Michael McBrien (East Patchogue, N.Y.) raced for the Hawks.

The women of Roger Williams came in 17
th out of 18 schools in the Yale Women's Regatta hosted by Yale University. In the A Division,
Janel DeCurtis (Redondo Beach, Calif.) and
Ariana Smaldone (Tiverton, R.I.) came in 16
th out of 18 with a total of 174 points. Their fourth and ninth place finishes in the individual races helped boost their overall finish.
Rachel Holick (Lawrence, N.J.) and
Kristi Dolan (West Islip, N.Y.) racked up 201 points in the B Division for an 18
th place finish. Their highest finish was 12
th place in the individual races.

The Hawks will host the Captain's Cup and participate in the Women's Mrs. Hurst Bowl in Hanover, N.H. next weekend.
