BRISTOL, R.I. — The Roger Williams University Sailing team took the top spots at the Jumbo Team Race, Saturday Salve Invite, and the Sunday Salve Invite. The Hawks finished third at the Azalea Bowl and the Marchiando Trophy Team Race, while posting a sixth-place finish at the Dellenbaugh Women's Team Race.
At the Jumbo Team Race, the Hawks posted a 19-3 record with Parker Moore (Hampton, Va.), Bo Angus (Richmond, Va.), and Jonathon Reece Schwartz (Miami, Fla.) were the Hawks' skippers. Peter Cotoia (South Yarmouth, Mass.), Didier Schouten (Eze, France), Maggie Fleming (San Diego, Calif.), ad Dominik Moncur (Plymouth, Minn.) were the crews for RWU at Tufts.
The Hawks went 6-1 in the opening round, only falling to Tufts. RWU went 5-2 in the second round, falling to Boston University and Brown. The Hawks then remained perfect through the next two rounds, going 5-0 in round three and then 3-0 in round four, to take the top spot.
At the Salve Invite, Roger Williams took first and second on both Saturday and Sunday. The Hawks compiled 45 points taking 21 in Division A and 24 in Division B to take first on Saturday. The pairing of Parker Herman (Annapois, Md.) and Panni Missura (Budapest, Hungary) finished with three first place finishes in Division A, while Max Hanson (Seattle, Wash.) and Sophia Fuller (St. Petersburg, Fla.) collected four first place finishes for the Hawks in Division B. For the second place Hawks team, RWU compiled 23 points in Division A and 25 points in Division. Moncur and Demetry Spinola (Dartmouth, Mass.) collected two top finishes in Division A, while Carl Furlhoff (Borensberg, Sweden) and Emily Gaillard (Antigua and Barbuda) collected four second-place finishes in Division B.
On Sunday at Salve, the Hawks top finishing team compiled 20 points with 11 coming in Division A and nine in Division B. The pairing of Ludwik Grzelak (Warsaw, Poland) and Fuller took three first place finishes in Division A, while Furlhoff and Gaillard took four first place finishes in Division B. For the second-place team, the Hawks compiled 23 points with 13 in Division A and 10 in Division B. The pairing of Herman and Missura took two first place finishes and one second place finish in Division A, while Hanson and Demetry Spinola collected one first place finish and three second place finished in Division B.
At the Azalea Bowl, the Hawks finished third after compiling 83 points with 49 coming Division A and 34 coming in Division B. The duo of Gavin Morris (Annapolis, Md.) and Maddy Martin (Indianapolis, Ind.) took three first place finished and four third place finished, while Jakub Fuja (Glenview, Ill.) and Dom Spinola (Dartmouth, Mass.) combined for one first place finish and six second place finished.
Roger Williams took third at the Marchiando Trophy going 14-4 overall. Carlos Bermudez de Castro (La Coruña, Spain), Kyle Pfrang (Suffolk, Va.), and Oliver Stokke (Santa Barbara, Calif.) were the Hawks' skippers, while Addy Fisher (Charleston, S.C.), Jed Lory (Severna Park, Md.), and Carter Sheehan (Middletown, R.I.) were the crews.
The Hawks went 11-4 in stage one, dropping to Harvard, Boston College, Navy, and Dartmouth. RWU then went 3-0 in the round of four (A).
Rounding out the weekend at the Dellenbaugh Women's Trophy, the Hawks placed sixth going 6-10 overall. The skippers for the Hawks were Lucy Meagher (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.), Tavia Smith (Wilmington, N.C.), and Maren Matthews (Harbor Springs, Mich.), while the crews were Katie McGagh (League City, Texas), Lexi Chigas (Glenview, Ill.), Mackenzie Speece (Shelter Island, N.Y.), and Elyssa Franklin (St. Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands).
RWU went 5-6 in round one, defeating Cornell, Tulane, Tufts, Charleston, and MIT. The Hawks then went 1-4 in the top six gold round, defeating Tulane (1-2-5).
Next weekend, Roger Williams heads to the Open New England Team Race Championships, Yale Women's Team Race, Mystic Lake Team Race, and the Southern 5 Fleet Race on April 4 and April 5.
