BRISTOL, R.I.—The Roger Williams Wrestling team won all three matches against top 25 Norwich (33-9), Castleton (29-15), and Stevens (24-18) on a Saturday afternoon.
Tyler Gazaway (157),
Taylor Shay (165), and
Kyle Kaiser (125) defeated all three of their opponents in today's matches. Gazaway picked up a 22-7 win over two-time NCAA qualifier Dylan Van Sickell of Stevens. Kaiser recorded three bonus point wins and Shay improved his perfect record to 13-0.
Anthony Malfitano had an enormous pin at 197 pounds against Stevens to seal the win for the Hawks.
Brett Leonard (New Milford, Conn.) took down Stevens' Robert Gennat (Sparta, N.J.) and Castletons' Chance LaPier (Keeseville, N.Y.) at 174 pounds.
Jack Kelly (Wall, N.J.) continued his impressive freshman campaign with a win over returning All-Region wrestler, Max Temple of Castleton and losing a close match to returning NCAA finalist Brett Kaliner of Stevens. Fellow high school teammate,
Nick Wagner, had a huge bonus point win against Castleton to put the Hawks in a position to win at 141 pounds.
Luke Bokina (Mattituck, N.Y),
Travis Arata (Mahwah, N.J) and
Noah Tandy (West Orange, N.J.) also had key impact wins on the day. Arata and Tandy avenged losses from last weekend at the RWU Invite.
The Hawks will compete in two events after the Thanksgiving break. The New Standard Corp. Invite hosted by York from November 30th to December 1st starting at 3 p.m. and the Ted Reese Invite on December 1st at Southern Maine starting at 10AM.
