CHARLESTON, S.C. – The Roger Williams University Sailing team began the Spring portion of their season in convincing fashion, notching a win in their only regatta of the weekend.
Roger Williams headed down to South Carolina to compete in the Bob Bavier Team Race, hosted by Charleston. At the regatta, the Hawks bested the nine-team field.
The first day of action saw the report time delayed until noon due to concerns about heavy breeze. The first boat hit the water at 1:30 and from there, Roger Williams would dominate the completion in the first day of action. The Hawks were undefeated on Saturday, posting a perfect 9-0 record.
In the second day, the team braved through colder conditions on the water. The Hawks logged a 6-2 record in the second round robin, falling only to St. Mary's and Yale. RWU would advance to the top four round, where the team stumbled a bit. RWU took down Georgetown, but fell to Charleston and Yale. At the end of the day, both RWU and Charleston posted identical 15-4 records. However the Hawks had the tie-breaker over Charleston with 2-1 head-to-head matchup against the Cougars, giving Roger Williams the win.
