Wrestling's Taylor Shay Earns 100th Career Win

PROVIDENCE, R.I.—Roger Williams Wrestling member Taylor Shay (New Fairfield, Conn.) earned his 100th career win during the NEWA National Duals on a Sunday afternoon.

#3 Shay faced opponent #7 Nick Remke (Marengo, Ill.) of #23 Coast Guard in which he won by decision 7-5 to successfully earn his 100th win.

Last season, he was the Northeast Region Champion at 165, an NCAA Qualifier, named All-NEWA Second Team, and was second on the team in wins. He finished the year with a 37-8 record, led the team with a .822 winning percentage, recorded 58 takedowns, 29 escapes, and four reversals, while tallying ten pins and finishing the year with 69 dual points.

His freshman year he was named All-NEWA Honorable Mention, made All-NEWA Rookie Team, and was chosen to the Pilgrim League All-Star Second Team. He finished the year with a 30-9 overall record, good for fourth on the team in wins, fifth on the team with 63 takedowns, posted 39 escapes during the season, and tied for the team lead with 21 four-point near falls. Finally, he posted seven reversals, six two-point near falls, and two pins.

Shay is currently ranked number three in Division III Wrestling and has a record of 34-0 so far this season and just earned All-Tournament during the NEWA National Duals.
