ROANOKE, Va.—The Roger Williams Wrestling team had one athlete compete in the second day of NCAA Championships. After winning two matches last night,
Taylor Shay (New Fairfield, Conn.) was named All-American.
Shay's overall record this season was 42-3, lead the team in dual points, and was third on the team with 62 takedowns.
His first match of the day was against Mark Choinski (West Allis) of Wis.-Oshkosh that resulted in a loss due to a 4:32 fall. Shay then moved to the seventh place match against Austin Whitney (Fulton, N.Y.) of Ithica where he won by decision 10-5. Shay concludes his 2019 season seventh in the country and looks forward to preparing for next season.
Head Coach
Jon Egan states, "Taylor became RWU's ninth wrestling All-American this weekend. He battled every second and coming out as an All-American is a culmination of the hard work he put in every day. He earned it and we are so proud of him."
That concludes the wrestling season for the Hawks as they gear up for next season.
