ANNAPOLIS, Md. – The Roger Williams University Sailing team concluded the 2021 season with a ninth-place finish at the 2021 ICSA Coed Dinghy National Championship.
Hawk Highlights
Coming off of a runner-up result at the ICSA Team Racing National Championship last week, Roger Williams stepped into its second national championship berth Monday. Unfortunately for the Hawks, the team did not get off to similar hot start as last week. RWU posted a 15
th-place finish at A Division and a 9
th place result in the opening race, putting RWU in a three-way tie for 12
th. Over the next four races, A Division struggled a bit, posting a best placing of ninth over that stretch. B Division fared a bit better with a pair of sixth-place showings, yet the Hawks still found themselves in 14
th place.
B Division put up a strong showing at the end of the day, concluding the first day of competition with five races in the top five over the final six races including a pair of runner-up showings. At A Division, the team couldn't quite find its stride, with a sixth-place finish in the ninth race serving as the squad best showing of the day. By the end of Monday, the Hawks found themselves in 12
th place with six races left on day two.
On Tuesday, RWU began the day on the right track, with A Division taking sixth and B Division earning third in the first race of the day. A Division would follow up that performance with placings of sixth, eighth, and third over the next three races. B Division would take 10
th, 11
th, and ninth over the same stretch. The team would end the championship with a 15
th-place finish at A Division and a runner-up showing at B Division. Taking home the ICSA Coed Dinghy National Championship would be host Navy.
