PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Roger Williams University Wrestling team opened a busy weekend by competing at the Wildcat Invitational hosted by Johnson & Wales University at the Wildcat Center on Saturday. No team scores were kept at the event, but
Noah Tandy (West Orange, N.J.) did take the top spot in the 197-pound weight class to lead a trio of Hawks who finished in the top-three.
RWU would take advantage of the situation that saw many wrestlers resting in advance of the New England Duals on Sunday but still saw success as
Ari Dinerman (Ashland, Mass.) and
Ryan Grebe (Sound Beach, N.Y.) also finished in the top-three of their brackets.
Beginning the day as the fifth-seed, Tandy had an outstanding day of wrestling, going 4-0 with three wins by decision and one by major decision including a win over the top seed at 197, ultimately taking the top spot in the weight class.
At 125, Dinerman also began the day as the fifth seed but would fall to the top seed and eventual top finisher in the weight class but rebounded to collect a pin in the consolation final to take third.
Ben Dubois (Rehoboth, Mass.) would also take sixth in the 125-pound weight class.
Grebe rounds out the top-three finishers for the Hawks, as he took third at 165. He went 4-1 on the day including two wins by fall, and one by major decision. His four wins were split in half by his lone defeat to the eventual champion in the weight class in the quarterfinals but he took care of business in the consolation bracket to take third.
