Hawks Dominate Steeplechase At Coast Guard Coast Guard Invitational

NEW LONDON, Conn. – The Roger Williams University Men's Track & Field Team took sixth place at the Coast Guard Spring Invitational on Saturday. The team's outing was highlighted in the 3000 Meter Steeplechase event where three Hawks finished in the top-five, including Trey Generali (Middlebury, Conn.) who claimed first place in the event, which also marks the first time he has ran in that event.

After 19 scored events, the RWU finished the day with 65 total points placing them sixth out of the ten total schools. The top three performers at the meet were UMass Dartmouth (121), the Coast Guard Academy (115), and Trinity (Conn.) (111).

In addition to Generali's victory in the Steeplechase, Ari Massos (Hamilton, Mass.) and PJ Frost (Georgetown, Mass.) claimed fourth and fifth places in the event respectively. For the rest of the runners, Sean Donovan (Glastonbury, Conn.) claimed fifth in the 400-meter hurdles, and was also a part of the 4x100 meter relay team alongside Joey DeLuca (Holliston, Mass.), Brendan Truman (Vernon, Conn.), and Sam Bielawa (Portsmouth, R.I.), as they claimed fifth.

The Hawks field athletes also continued their steady performance this season. Sam Bielawa claimed first in the long jump at 6.64m, qualifying for New England's in the process, and fifth in the triple jump at 12.81m. Steven Nostro (New City, N.Y.) grabbed second in the pole vault, and Nathan Douglas (Attleboro, Mass.) also secured fourth in the high jump.
