BIDDEFORD, Maine – Sam Bielawa (Portsmouth, R.I.) posted a New England qualifying jump for the Roger Williams University Men's Track & Field team, leaping his way to Commonwealth Coast Conference Field Rookie of the Week honors for the week of April 4^th through April 10^th, as it was announced by the conference offices on Monday. Bielawa took first place in the Long Jump for the Hawks at the Coast Guard Invitational on Saturday, flying 6.64m to claim the honor.
 
Bielawa had a strong showing at RWU's third meet of the spring, securing two other top-five finishes besides his top placing. Individually, he snared fifth in the triple jump while he was also a member of the fifth-place finishing 4x100 relay team.
 
It is a good sign to see a regional-qualifying mark this early in the season but perhaps more impressive is that Bielawa's jump landed a mere 0.05 meters shy of the program record in the event, posted by Jacob Mailloux '19 at the CCC Championship meet in 2019.
