BIDDEFORD, Maine – The Roger Williams University Men's Lacrosse team had six players receive All-CCC accolades for their performance during the 2022 season as it was announced by the conference offices on Friday. While the team did not feature a first team honoree,
Jared Grier (Quincy, Mass.),
Hunter Goodrow (Hopkinton, Mass.), and
Max Kimmel (Milford, Conn.) each earned All-CCC Second Team recognition.
RWU added a trio of players on the all-conference third team where
Tim Mullane (Hanover, Mass.),
Tyler Zanini (Hopkinton, Mass.), and
Brian Cumming (East Williston, N.Y.) received spots. The six selections are tied for the third-most in the conference trailing Western New England University and Endicott College while being tied with Salve Regina University. This marks the second time each that Grier, Goodrow, Mullane, and Zanini have received all-conference honors after they were all selected last spring.
The Hawks managed some turbulence and a slow start to the season before really taking off in the second half of their conference slate winning three of their last four contests. They finished 8-10 overall but 5-3 in CCC action to claim the fourth seed in the conference tournament beginning on Saturday against Wentworth.
Kimmel won the full-time job in net for RWU in mid-March and he never looked back, posting double-digit saves in ten of his last 11 games, recording a sub-.500 save percentage just once in that span. While he only finished the season at 6-6 in goal, he quietly ended up ranking third in total saves (182), fourth in save percentage (56.9%), and fifth in goals against average (10.49). As a result, he became the first RWU freshman named to an all-conference team since
Peter Navarro '21 made the second team in 2018.
After enjoying a breakout season in 2021, Goodrow continued his ascension this spring to earn all-conference second team recognition for the Hawks. As the team's top individual defender, he paced RWU and ranked third in the conference in caused turnovers with 26. He also was tied for third on the team with 39 groundballs.
Grier continued to be a nightmare for the opposition to contain offensively and was one of just three players to finish in the top-ten in the CCC in both goals and assists and finishing second in total points with 69. He set career highs in points, goals and helpers this season and ranks third in the conference in goals (42) and seventh in assists (27).
One cannot talk about Grier without mentioning Mullane, as the two have been linked since their arrival in Bristol, serving as offensive pillars throughout their time at RWU. Like his fellow fifth year, Mullane finished in the top-ten in both goals and assists this spring. As the Hawks top playmaker, Mullane finished sixth in the CCC in assists (28) while also being tied for fifth in goals (35).
Joining Mullane on the third team is Zanini and Cumming. An exceptional defender, Zanini lead Roger Williams with 45 ground balls while also forcing 24 turnovers, a mark that ranks fifth in the conference. Cumming, meanwhile, is a do-it-all long-stick midfielder who is third on the team in caused turnovers (18), tied for third in ground balls (39), and has added a goal and three assists this year for RWU.
