BIDDEFORD, Maine – Sam Bielawa's (Portsmouth, R.I.) outstanding freshman campaign culminated in him securing All-Commonwealth Coast Conference honors in three different events and CCC Field Rookie of the Year honors for the Roger Williams University Men's Track & Field team. Bielawa led eight different Hawks who earned all-conference honors, among them were
Sean Donovan (Glastonbury, Conn.),
Nathan Douglas (Attleboro, Mass.), and
Jon Gladstone (Fairfield, Conn.) who got a pair of All-CCC honors each.
"All-Conference distinction in men's track and field is determined at the CCC Championship meet. Gold medal winners earn First Team All-CCC recognition with silver medalists being named to the Second Team and bronze medalists being recognized as Third Teamers," explained the conference's official release. "Voting for the major awards was conducted by the five CCC men's track and field head coaches during the week following the CCC Championships."
Bielawa was RWU's lone first team member doing so in the Triple Jump with a mark of 13.47m and more than half a meter further than the second-place finisher in the event. He also took third in the Long Jump with a leap of 6.48m and was a member of the 4x100m Relay team that took second. Joining him on that relay squad was Donovan, Gladstone, and
Brendan Truman (Vernon, Conn.), as they posted a time of 43.84.
Sam's brother,
Jack Bielawa (Portsmouth, R.I.) was a member of the Hawks' other all-conference relay team in the 4x400m, along with Douglas, Gladstone, and
Liam Engel (Holliston, Mass.). They ran a time of 3:28.18 to take third in that race. The anchor of that unit was Douglas, who's individual 400m time of 50.18 grabbed him Second Team honors.
Donovan also added an individual runner-up finish for Roger Williams in the 400m Hurdles, posting a time of 1:00.08.
Alexander Kalber (Middletown, Conn.) rounded out the team's all-conference honorees in the 5k by posting a time of 15:43.07.
