BRISTOL, R.I. – The Roger Williams University wrestling team saw three members of the team finish in second in their respective weight classes at the RWU Invitational Saturday.
At 197 pounds,
Spencer Fetrow (Holliston, Mass.) went 3-1 on the day, opening the day with a technical fall victory, defeating Christ Bold of Cortland, 17-1. Fetrow then earned a pinfall victory over his next opponent in 1:26, before earning his final win in the semifinals, with a 4-1 decision. In the championship match, Castleton's Darby Mclaughlin edged out Fetrow, 8-3.
Jayden Curley (Mansfield, Mass.) also finished second at 174 pounds, after opening the day with a pinfall victory. Curley then posted a 12-1 major decision victory in his next match, before repeating the feat in the semifinals with a 10-0 score. Curley fell 5-3 in the finals rounding out the day.
Cole Shaughnessy (Fairfield, Conn.) then wrestled to second at 184 pounds, earning a pair of pinfall victories in the opening two matches of the day, before downing his semifinal opponent by decision, 7-0. In the finals, Shaughnessy fell 1-0 to his opponent, finishing as the runner up.
Ben Bariso (Butler, N.J.) earned a sixth place finish at 157 pounds, posting a 4-2 record on the day. After earning a pair of victories, the first by pinfall in 32 seconds and second by major decision 11-3, Bariso fell in his third match. In the following match, Bariso picked up a 21-7 major decision victory and then earned a second victory by pinning his opponent before falling in his final match of the day.
Roger Williams will take part in the David Butler Duals, on Saturday, Nov. 18 beginning at 10:00 am at the University of New Hampshire. The Hawks will then travel to take part in the Violet Duals on Saturday, Dec. 2.
