Men’s Track & Field: Hawks Top the Competition at CCC Championship, Set Three School Records

WENHAM, Mass.—The Roger Williams men's track & field team came out on top at the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Championship hosted by Gordon this weekend.

Trey Generali (Middlebury, Conn.) finished first in the 3000m Steeplechase with a time of 9:49.74, setting a school record. Eli Labell (South Hamilton, Mass.), the other Roger Williams runner in the event, finished in 10:07.18 to take fourth place and qualify for New Englands.

In the 400m Hurdles, Sean Donovan (Glastonbury, Conn.) came in first at 58.54 for the second school record set at the meet. Sean O'Brien (Wappingers Falls, N.Y.) took third in the event, followed by Griffin Herbert (Scarborough, Maine) and Vince Tarolli (Syracuse, N.Y.) in sixth and eighth places, respectively.

In the 5K race, freshman Nathan Tassey (Whitman, Mass.) came in second place, finishing the event in 15:20.42 to set the third Roger Williams record. The five other Hawks to set personal records in the 5K were Alexander Kalber (Middletown, Conn.), Ryan Cotugno (Melrose, Mass.), Adam Horwitz (Winchester, Mass.), Colin Czuchra (Oxford, Conn.), Colby Winn (North Andover, Mass.), and Sean Bonefant (Topsfield, Conn.).

Joey DeLuca (Holliston, Mass.) set a personal record in the 100-Meter Dash with a time of 11.70, shaving milliseconds off of his previous best 11.74. Teammate Andy Oren (Bristol, Conn.) set personal bests in the 100-Meter and 200-Meter Dash, taking fourth place and first place, respectively.

In the 400-Meter Dash, Liam Engel (Holliston, Mass.) placed second with a personal best time of 51.79 while Nathan Labossiere (Stoughton, Mass.) also set a personal best time in the event at 53.79.

Roger Williams runners finished in the top-ten in the 110m Hurdles. O'Brien was the first of the Hawks to complete the race, setting a personal record at 17.09. Herbert came in just behind him, at fourth place, for a personal record of his own. Stephen Nalesnik (Middleton, Mass.) rounded out the event for the Hawks, taking sixth.

The Hawks teams took second place in both relays, with Donovan, Deluca, Oren, and Herbert competing in the 4x100 Relay and Jack Bielawa (Portsmouth, R.I.), Labossiere, Engel, and Will Tainter-Gilbert (Sandy Hook, Conn.) in the 4x400 Relay.

In the High Jump, Adam Lacroix (Bedford, N.H.) finished on top, going 1.75m. Sebastian Gonzales landed fourth place at 1.70m.

In the Pole Vault, Luke Calabrese (Watertown, Conn.) took second place and Riley King came in fourth.

Sam Bielawa (Portsmouth, R.I.) was the runner-up in the Long Jump with a distance of 6.66m. He took first place in the Triple Jump, qualifying for New Englands at 13.36m.

Personal records were also set in the Shot Put and the Discus Throw. Adam Goralski (Southington, Conn.) recorded a distance of 10.22m in the Shot Put. Ben Sheehan (Plymouth, Mass.) went 35.02m in the Discus.

In the lone event of Friday evening, Ali Abdul-Mumin (Providence, R.I.) took first in the Hammer Throw. Goralski finished seventh.

This closes out the regular season for Roger Williams. The Hawks will be back in action May 4- May 6 for the New England Championship at Springfield.
