KINGS POINT, N.Y. – The Roger Williams University sailing team finished tied for fifth in the Round of eight stage, closing out the Inter-Collegiate Sailing Association (ICSA) Open Team Race National Championships with a 14-8 record.
The team for the regatta consisted of skippers
Aidan Hoogland (Chula Vista, Calif.),
Cameron Wood (Newport Beach, Calif.),
Mathieu Dale (Christiansted, Va.), and
Carlos Bermudez de Castro (La Coruña, Spain). For the teams crew they turned to
Molly Matthews (Grosse Ile, Mich.),
Hank Bailey (Chatham, Mass.),
Michaela O'Donnell (Elyria, Ohio),
Annika Irene (Excelsior, Minn.),
Carly Kiss (Pewaukee, Wis.),
Ethan Snyder (Sea Cliff, N.Y.), and
Grace Woodcock (South Dartmouth, Mass.).
After posting a 11-4 record in round robin play to begin the regatta, the Hawks went 3-4 in the Final 8. Roger Williams picked up wins over Stanford, with a first second and fifth finish, while also defeating Brown and St. Mary's. In the win over St. Mary's the Hawks placed first second and third to take the race.
Of the four teams to reach the final four, three teams came from the New England Intercollegiate Sailing Association (NEISA) with Harvard, Yale, and Dartmouth Each qualifying. Stanford was the lone team outside the conference to qualify.
The Hawks Open Team Race season comes to a close but the Hawks will race in the Open Fleet Race National Championships beginning on Tuesday, May 30.
