BRISTOL, R.I. – The Roger Williams University wrestling team took all three of their matches on Saturday in the Campus Rec Center Field House, defeating Plymouth State, 43-9, Bridgewater State, 36-15, and Western New England, 23-21, in a Quad meet hosted by the Hawks on Senior Day.
Before the start of the meet, the Hawks recognized
Travis Grebe (Sound Beach, N.Y.),
Jayden Curley (Mansfield, Mass.),
Hunter Rasmussen (Fairfield, Conn.) and
Cole Shaughnessy (Fairfield, Conn.) for their four years with the program.
Opening up against Plymouth State,
Ari Dinerman (Ashland, Mass.) took a 16-1 win by technical fall at 125 pounds. Following up at 133 pounds,
Shaun McLaughlin (Natick, Mass.) earned a pinfall victory over his opponent as he clinched another six points for the Hawks. Plymouth state took their first points of the match at 149 pounds with a 17-12 win by decision.
Ben Bariso (Butler, N.J.) then earned a pin against his opponent, before
Matt Lucas (Danbury, Conn.) earned another victory for Roger Williams.
Curley earned another five points via tech fall. The Hawks closed out the dual with a win by Rasmussen closing out the dual.
In the Hawks match against Bridgewater State,
Ben Dubois (Rehoboth, Mass.) earned a 9-4 win by decision to start the meet before the Bears earned a win by decision at 133 pounds. Roger Williams went up 6-3 after the 141-pound match where
Gavin McKenna earned the victory, 5-1. At 149,
Eddie Troyano (Wading River, N.Y.) pinned his opponent in 2:42, before taking points at 157 and 165 as well to take control of the match.
Against Western New England, The Hawks earned a win by major decision at 125 pounds, putting the Hawks up 4-1, before
Christopher Tringali (Chester, N.J.) took a technical fall victory, 23-5, at 133 pounds.
After earning a win by decision at 141 pounds, the Golden Bears then won back-to-back matches by decision to take a 15-8 lead in the match. Western New England won the 165-pound match, before Curley pinned his opponent at 174 pounds, cutting the match score deficit to four.
At 184 pounds,
Michael Forte (Westbury, N.Y.) earned five points for the Hawks with a 15-0 tech fall victory. Shaughnessy then earned a win at 197 pounds, before closing out the match with Western New England earning three points with a win by decision.
Roger Williams (10-3 Dual) will wrestle in the Wildcat Open on Sunday, Jan. 28 beginning at 10:00 am. The Hawks will then wrestle at Rhode Island College on Friday, Feb. 2 at 7:00 pm, before hosting New England College on Saturday, Feb. 3 at 3:00 pm.
