PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Roger Williams University wrestling team was paced Sunday by
Michael Forte (Westbury, N.Y.) and
Matt Lucas (Danbury, Conn.) at the Wildcat Open hosted by Johnson & Wales.
Forte battled to the final match of the championship bracket at 174 pounds, falling to Jack Mackiernan of American International.
Lucas opened his first two matches with a pair of victories, before falling to the top seeded wrestler at 165-pounds. Lucas fought his way through the bracket to the consolation semifinals, before falling in the bout.
Anthony Ostrander (Newbury, Mass.) opened up the with a pinfall victory at 165-pounds, and downing Maurice Cooper of Johnson & Wales by decision, before falling in his third match. Ostrander, then earned a win by major decision in his final bout, 15-7.
After falling in his first match of the day,
Tyler Lanci (Franklin Square, N.Y.) earned a pair of wins at 133 pounds, before falling by decision in the consolation quarterfinals by decision.
Roger Williams returns to the mat on Friday, Feb. 2 at 7:00 pm when they travel to Rhode Island College. The Hawks will then host New England College on Saturday, Feb. 3 at 3:00 pm in the Campus Rec Center.
