BREWSTER, Mass. — The Roger Williams University men's golf team competed at the New England Intercollegiate Golf Association (NEIGA) Championship, finishing fifth among 22 teams at The Captains Golf Course. The Hawks completed the two-round event with a total score of 608 (+32), missing fourth place by a single stroke to Hartford.
The Hawks opened the tournament with a 302 (+14) score in the first round, held on the Starboard Course, followed by a 306 (+18) in the second round on the Port Course. Endicott secured the tournament victory with a score of 586 (+7), while Bates and Husson tied for second at 606 (+30).
Will Lafrance (Westport, Mass.) led Roger Williams with impressive rounds of 73 (+1) and 72 (E), finishing the tournament at 145 (+1). In the first round, Lafrance carded a 73, featuring an even-par 36 on the front nine, including a birdie at the par-5 eighth hole. He followed with a 37 on the back, adding another birdie on the par-5 18th. In the second round, his even-par 72 helped secure the Hawks' top-five finish.
Ryan Dacey (East Greenwich, R.I.) also had a strong showing, posting scores of 74 (+2) and 80 (+8). His first round featured an impressive 37 on the back nine, including four straight pars to close the round.
Sammy Johnson (West Springfield, Mass.) contributed significantly with rounds of 76 (+4) and 75 (+3), maintaining a solid level of play over both days.
Josh Peterson (Goffstown, N.H.) and
Cal Tryder (Wakefield, Mass.) rounded out the lineup, recording scores of 79 (+7) and 80 (+8) in the first round, followed by 79 (+7) and 81 (+11) in the second, respectively.
Roger Williams will now turn their focus to the Conference of New England (CNE) Championship at the Tedesco Country Club on Tuesday, Oct. 29 and Wednesday, Oct, 30 as they look to defend their conference title.
