BOSTON, Mass. – The Roger Williams University sailing team faced stiff competition this past weekend at the Open Atlantic Coast Championship Final hosted by Boston College, finishing in 17th place overall.
The regatta and saw teams from 18 prestigious universities compete across two divisions. The event began on Saturday, with four races in Division A and three in Division B being conducted.
RWU's Division A team, consisting of Kyle Pfrang (Suffolk, Va.) and Reid Nelson (Tampa, Fla.), faced competitive fields, completing the weekend with a total score of 79. In Division B, Drew Mastovsky (Marion, Mass.) and Addyson Fisher (Charleston, S.C.) contributed to the team's efforts, finishing with a score of 81. Together, the Hawks totaled 160 points
In Division A, Pfrang and Nelson delivered several solid finishes, including a 6th place in the opening race and a 7th in race four. Division B saw Mastovsky and Addyson Fisher contend with similar conditions. Their best performance came in the final race, where they managed a strong third-place finish. Despite this, the team struggled with several higher placements throughout the weekend, totaling 81 points in the division.
The regatta concluded with Stanford emerging as the champion, followed closely by Dartmouth and Tulane. The event showcased exceptional talent and sportsmanship among all participating teams.
The Hawks will continue competition on Saturday, Oct. 26th when they are scheduled to take part in three regattas.
