NEW ORLEANS, La. — The Roger Williams University women's sailing team posted a 5-4 record through the opening round of the ICSA Women's Team Race National Championship, placing sixth overall heading into the final day of competition.
Roger Williams opened the regatta with back-to-back wins, defeating St. Mary's College of Maryland (1-2-5) and Bowdoin College (1-4-5). The Hawks continued their strong start with a dominant 1-2-3 win over host Tulane University.
After a loss to Harvard University, the Hawks dropped a tight race to Georgetown University before rebounding with a 1-3-5 victory over Tufts University.
Roger Williams split its final three scored races, falling to Cornell University before earning a key 1-4-5 win over Dartmouth College. The Hawks closed the day with a loss to Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
The Hawks' lineup featured Lucy Meagher, Maren Matthews, and Tavia Smith as skippers, paired with Maggie Fleming, Katherine McGagh, and Alexandra Chigas, with additional depth provided by Elyssa Franklin, Mackenzie Speece, and Addyson Fisher throughout the rotation.
Roger Williams will race its remaining round one matchups against Stanford University, University of Michigan, Brown University, College of Charleston, and Yale University in day two.
