BRISTOL, R.I. – The Roger Williams University Wrestling team split their two duals on Saturday, falling to New York University (NYU), 26-17, before rebounding for a 32-18 win over New Jersey City University (NJCU) on Saturday in the RWU Campus Rec Center Field House.
Against NYU, the Hawks dropped the opening match with a pin by Harrison Gordon at 125 pounds, before James Carlock earned a major decision victory over
Trey Kaupp, 11-1. Tyler Kadish earned a 5-1 win by decision over
Matthew Castillo.
At 149 pounds, Vincenzo Napolitana earned five points for the Violets, with a 17-1 victory, before Cooper Pontelandolfo took the win over
Gavin McKenna, earning another five points. The Hawks took their first win of the dual with
Matt Lucas earning a 6-4 win, before
Jayden Curley picked up another three points to cut the deficit to 17. After a Major decision defeat at 184 pounds, the Hawks finished the match with
Spencer Fetrow earning a 21-3 win, ahead of a forfeit victory by
Jayden Toppan.
Against NJCU, Dominic Terracciano earned a victory via pin against
Zachary Henault, giving the Gothic Knights a 6-0 advantage to start the match.
Lucas Torre picked up another six points for NJCU, ahead of a win by decision Dean Costantino, 9-4 over Castillo.
Jonathan Fabrizio took the win at 149 points, with a 13-11 victory over Andy Beras. At 157 pounds, Zack Vera took the win over
Gordon Murray 10-8. The Hawks picked up three victories by forfeit, taking a 21-18 lead in the match. At 197 pounds, the Fetrow added five points with a tech fall victory in 1:03. The match was sealed with a win by forfeit at 285 pounds.
Roger Williams (5-2, 1-1 NEWA) will be back on the mats on Friday, Dec. 13 at 6:00 pm in the Campus Rec Center when they host Springfield. The Hawks will then host the Scott Viera Open on Saturday, Dec. 14 beginning at 9:00 am.
