NORTON, Mass. – The Roger Williams University Women's Swimming team currently sits first out of four at the Chris Fisher Invitational. The Hawks ended the day on Friday with a score of 426 heading into day two.
The Hawks sent Avery Benigni (Meriden, Conn.), Shae Gonzales (Pottstown, Pa.), AvaGrace Zettler (Allendale, N.J.), and Claire Dombrofski (West Hartford, Conn.) to compete in the 200-yard Freestyle Relay. The team finished third overall with a time of 1:40.61.
Avery Gentile (Wayne, N.J.) and Kendall Noonan (Southington, Conn.) swam the 500-yard Freestyle for the Hawks and finished fifth and sixth, respectively, with times of 5:29.01 and 5:35.51. In the 100-yard Freestyle, Dombrofski swam again for the Hawks and placed second while completing the race in 54.18. Benigni also competed, finishing fifth.
In the 200-yard Individual Medley, Zettler finished third in 2:16.43, with Mattia McIntyre (Norton, Mass.) adding a 2:21.72 time to place eighth.
Kallie Fournier (Berkley, Mass.) led the Hawks in the 200-yard Butterfly and finished fourth, followed by Natalie Herl (Rocklin, Calif.) who placed fifth with times of 2:16.87 and 2:20.85, respectively.
McIntyre finished first for the Hawks in the 100-yard Breaststroke, finishing second overall and posting a 1:10.44 finish, to lead four RWU top five finishes, followed by Zettler, Anna Gallagher (Ellington, Conn.), and Amanda Riley (Ludlow, Mass.).
In the 200-yard Backstroke, Avery Watson (Niskayuna, N.Y.) placed fifth with a time of 2:16.41.
To round out the events, Gonzalez, McIntyre, Fournier, and Dombrofski were the Hawks sent to swim the 400-medley relay. The team finished third overall and posted a time of 4:09.31.
Roger Williams will be back in the pool tomorrow to round out the weekend at the Chris Fisher Invitational at Wheaton College.
