BRISTOL, R.I. – The Roger Williams University Women's Swimming team proved dominant on Saturday at the RWU Invitational at the Aquatics Center. The Hawks finished the meet in first with a score of 657, beating second place Eastern Connecticut State by 424.
The Hawks sent Claire Dombrofski (West Hartford, Conn.), Mattia McIntyre (Norton, Mass.), AvaGrace Zettler (Allendale, N.J.) and Avery Benigni (Meriden, Conn.) to compete in the 200-yard Medley Relay. The team finished in first place with an overall time of 1:54.58.
In the 200-yard Freestyle, Dombrofski was back in the pool and the top finisher with a time of 1:58.38.
For the 200-yard Individual Medley, Zettler swam again for the Hawks, finishing first with a time of 2:18.78.
The Hawks secured the top four finishes in the 50-yard Freestyle. Dombrofski finished first with a time of 25.72, followed closely by Shae Gonzales (Pottstown, Pa.), Isabel Tahlmore (Narragansett, R.I.), and Josey Stevens (Merrimack, N.H.) finishing second, third, and fourth respectively.
Benigni was back in the pool for the 100-yard Butterfly, finishing first with a time of 1:01.29.
In the 100-yard Freestyle, Dombrofski and Gonzales took first and second, finishing in 54.72 and 57.03 respectively.
Alexis Gentile (Wayne, N.J.) finished first in the 500-yard Freestyle, with a time of 5:40.05.
For the 200-yard Freestyle Relay, the Hawks sent Zettler, Lauren Clark (Trumbull, Conn.), Gonzalez, and Tahlmore to compete. The team took first place and finished with a time of 1:44.73.
The Hawks took the top three sports in the 100-yard Backstroke. Gonzales finished first with a time of 1:03.87, followed closely by Avery Watson (Niskayuna, N.Y.) and Allie Lefebvre (Saco, Maine) finishing second and third respectively.
In the 100-yard Breaststroke, the Hawks took the top five finishes. McIntyre finished first with a time of 1:10.47, followed in order by Zettler, Stevens, Brooke Irons (Cranston, R.I.), and Anna Gallagher (Ellington, Conn.).
The Hawks sent Benigni, Kendall Noonan (Southington, Conn.), Clark, and Dombrofski to compete in the 400-yard Freestyle Relay. The team finished in first with a time of 3:48.43.
Roger Williams with travel to Bridgeport on Saturday, Nov. 8 and compete against University of Bridgeport and University of Saint Joseph (CT).
