SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – The Roger Williams University Wrestling team defeated Hunter, 46-7, before falling to Western New England in a New England Wrestling Association (NEWA) dual, 21-16.
In a battle between the two Hawks programs, Roger Williams started the match up 12-0 after 125 and 133 pounds. RWU then saw
Shaun McLaughlin (Natick, Mass.) defeat Nacim Benzine in 42 seconds by fall.
Nick Fatone (Norwalk, Conn.) then added six more points with a pin of his own at 149 pounds, putting the Hawks up 24-0.
After Marc Kleyman gave Hunter their first points with a win by decision at 157 pounds,
Gordon Murray (Porter Corners, N.Y.) picked up a major decision victory at 165, winning his bout 20-7.
Tyrell Newmann (Cranston, R.I.) then tallied a win by fall in 1:00 over Oscar O'Donnell-Powell. A win by forfeit at 184 and 285 pounds secured 12 more points for Roger Williams, with Hunter seeing Alimkhan Guseinov earn a major decision victory at 197 pounds.
Against Western New England, the Hawks opened as
Jayden Toppan (Gloucester, Mass.) earned an 18-9 win by major decision at 285, before
Spencer Buscema (Salem, N.H.) pinned Clayton O'Connor at 125 pounds, putting the Hawks up 6-0. The Golden Bears responded at 133 pounds with a major decision by Austin Mitrosky, followed by a decision win at 141 by Austin Monteiro, leveling the match at 10 apiece.
At 157 pounds,
Jack Forte (Westbury, N.Y.) picked up a 5-3 win by decision, before David Lisk responded with a win by decision of his own to level the match again with three remaining. Max Bluhm took the 174-pound match, 3-1 before Jaylen Hawkins sealed the victory with a win by tech fall in 6:02.
Eric Power (Roslindale, Mass.) closed out the match with a 6-5 victory over Charles Maloy.
Roger Williams (5-2) will travel to Springfield on Friday, Dec. 12, at 6:00 pm for a dual ahead of hosting the Scott Viera Open on Saturday, Dec. 13, at 9:00 am. The Hawks will open 2026 on Saturday, Jan. 3 when they host duals beginning at 10:00 am where they will face New England College and King's.
