MIDDLETOWN, Conn. – The Roger Williams University Wrestling team is set to head down to Wesleyan for the NCAA Division III Northeast Regionals on Saturday, Mar. 1 and Sunday, Mar. 2.
Wrestling for the Hawks at the 125 pound class is
Chris Tringali who has won 9 of his 20 competed matches on the season. Tringali was riding a four match winning streak heading into the Feb. 13 dual at Johnson & Wales where he fell to the defending National Champion Joziah Fry. Since transitioning to the 125 pound weight class in January, Tringali has gone 6-6 in his matches.
Shaun McLaughlin will wrestle for the Hawks at 133 pounds, posting a 21-14 record on the season. McLaughlin since the New year has gone, 8-6 since he made the move down from 141 pounds winning two of his last three matches on the season.
At 141-pounds,
Gavin McKenna posted a record of 8-19, but picked up four wins since the move down to 141 pounds, going 4-9 since the move.
Nick Fatone will take the mat for the Hawks at 149 pounds, while going 12-13 on the season at the weight.
Matt Lucas, who picked up his 100
th career victory earlier this season against RIC, has gone 32-8 on the year, winning each of his nine contested bouts at the weight class. Lucas will look to make an impact, sitting fourth in the pre-seeds in the weight class.
At 165,
Gordon Murray has gone 11-15 on the year, while moving up to the 165 pound class in late January.
Jayden Curley will also look to return to Nationals coming in as the Hawks top 174 pound wrestler. Curley has battled his way to a 23-9 record on the year, after a 2024 NCAA Championship appearance.
Posting a 20-8 record on the year,
Michael Forte will go for the Hawks after wrestling all but one match at the weight. Forte's last victory came on Feb.1 against Bridgewater State. Coming in at #8 in the last edition of the NCAA Division III Individual rankings in the January 7
th edition of the NWCA poll,
Spencer Fetrow will look to qualify for nationals, coming in as the No. 3 seed in the tournament, with a 20-4 record on the year.
Rounding out the tournament for Roger Williams will be
Jayden Toppan will compete at 285 pounds, coming in with a 24-9 record in his first year of collegiate competition.
The tournament will begin on Saturday and conclude Sunday, with the top three finishers in each weight class earning a spot at the NCAA Division III National Championships at the Amica Mutual Pavilion in Providence.
