BRISTOL, R.I. – The Roger Williams University Sailing team placed fourth at the New England Intercollegiate Sailing Association (NEISA) Open Fleet Race Championships and Women's Fleet Race Championships over the weekend. The Hawks also competed at the 87
th Boston Dinghy Club Challenge Cup and George Morris Trophy.
At the NEISA Women's Fleet Race Championship, the Hawks compiled 36 total points through the two-division regatta, finishing a point behind Harvard for third place. Yale took the championship and automatic bid with 13 points, and Brown finished second with 28 total points, while Bowdoin compiled 42, placing fifth.
In Division A,
Lucy Meagher and
Maren Matthews compiled 16 points in the division, finishing third, with Yale and Boston College both finishing with 10 points, while Yale took the top spot due to the tiebreaker. The duo finished sixth in races ne and two, before rounding out the day with a fourth-place finish.
In Division B,
Tavia Smith and
Jancy Grayson were paired, compiling 20 points, placing sixth in the division. Yale again took the top spot, sweeping first-place finishes in their three races. The Hawks opened the event with a ninth-place finish, but improved in race two, finishing fifth. The two rounded out the regatta with a sixth-place finish.
At the Open Fleet Race Championships hosted at Brown, the Hawks placed fourth, sailing to 138 points on the weekend, finishing five points behind Brown, which placed third. Harvard came away with the team championship.
In Division A, the Hawks saw skippers
Carlos Bermudez de Castro and
Kyle Pfrang sail with crews
Carly Kiss,
Jed Lory, and
Ethan Snyder, compiling 66 points to finish third in the division. In their 12 races, the group managed to take home one first-place finish, while finishing in the top three in five races.
Division B saw
Oliver Stokke serve as skipper, with
Addyson Fisher, Lory, and
Demetry Spinola serving as crews. The group tallied 72 points through 12 races, as Boston College took first with 35 points, followed by Harvard, Brown, and then Roger Williams. The Hawks tallied a first-place finish in race two, but only tallied one other top-three finish, with five total top-five finishes.
At the Boston Dinghy Club Challenge, the Hawks took the top spot of the regatta, winning with a three-division score of 80, as they beat Harvard which placed second with 102 points. And
Drew Mastovsky and
Ruby Hope sailed to a second-place finish in Division A, tallying 30 total points to Harvard's Robby Meek and Alexandra Dorofeev, who earned 24. The Hawks finished in the top three in six of their races.
The Division B duo of
Connor McHugh and
Dawson Chambers-Tartaglino earned a second-place finish as well, earning 29 points to finish two behind Tufts. The pair had two top finishes in races five and six, while also picking up eight top five finishes.
Jack Roman and
Carter Sheehan rounded out the regatta in Division C, earning 21 points, edging out Tyler Lamm and Reese Corckran, who tallied 22. They opened up with three straight first-place finishes before picking up top-three finishes until races eight and nine, where they placed fourth and fifth, respectively.
At the George Morris Trophy hosted by Boston University, the Hawks placed eighth in the 13-team field, compiling 90 points in two divisions of racing.
Edward Herman and
Lexi Chigas tallied 50 points in Division A, placing sixth, with a first-place finish in race two.
Ethan Martin and
Demetry Spinola also finished sixth in Division B, earning 40 points with a first-place finish in the final race of the regatta.
