Men's Track & Field: Tassey Concludes Second NCAA Championship Apperance

GENEVA, Ohio — Nathan Tassey executed a disciplined, tactical race in the 10,000 meters at the NCAA Division III National Championships on Thursday night, methodically working through the field with even pacing.

From the start, Tassey settled into the chase pack. He came through the opening mile in 4:42.8, with 400-meter splits of 1:10.20, 1:11.50, 1:10.90 and 1:10.20. He stayed composed through 3,200 meters in 9:24.4, logging lap times of 1:09.80, 1:10.80, 1:10.50 and 1:10.10. By the 5,000-meter mark, which he passed in approximately 14:43, Tassey remained within striking distance of the lead pack.

Through the middle stages of the race, Tassey maintained his rhythm. He crossed 4,000 meters in 11:45.1 and 6,000 meters in 17:36.9, with steady splits between 1:10 and 1:11 per lap. As the field began to stretch and athletes dropped off the pace, Tassey continued to move up methodically. He clicked off laps between 6,000 and 8,800 meters in 1:11.10, 1:11.10, 1:10.90, 1:10.80, 1:11.40, 1:11.70, 1:12.00 and 1:12.00.

With the finish in sight, Tassey remained competitive, crossing 9,200 meters in 27:07.1 and 9,600 meters in 28:19.1. He closed with a final 400 meters in approximately 1:11, finishing near 29:30. However, he was later disqualified due to a technical infraction.

This concludes Tassey's second career NCAA Division III Men's Track & Field National Championship appearance.
