Club Men’s Rugby: Roger Williams Announces 2025-26 Captains

BRISTOL, R.I. – The Roger Williams University Men's Rugby team has announced its leadership group for the 2025-26 season, introducing a new three-role captaincy model designed to strengthen the Hawks both on and off the field.

"I am excited to announce our leadership group for this season," said head coach Christian Palombo. "This year, we are taking a slightly different approach to captaincy by assigning three distinct roles, each designed to strengthen both our on on-field performance and our club's overall culture."

Lucas Sanborn-Burch (Tariffville, Conn.) will serve as the team's Captain and serve as the squad's central on-field leader, handling tactical decisions, motivating teammates, communicating with referees, and enforcing discipline. Sanborn-Burch was selected for his experience, respect among teammates, and consistent play that sets the standard for the squad.

Billy Roche (Rumford, R.I.), named the team's Club Captain, will be charged with representing players' interests, serving as liaison between the team, coach, and administration, and leading in organizational matters. Roche was chosen for his long-term commitment, strong administrative skills, and steady leadership on and off the field.

Rounding out the leadership team is Vice-Captain Dylan Palombo (Riverside, R.I.), who will direct the forwards unit in scrums, line-outs, and formations while serving as a secondary communicator with referees. Palombo's knowledge of forward play and leadership presence created an invaluable role within the leadership structure.

"This leadership structure is designed to balance responsibility across the field and within the club," Christian Palombo said. "Lucas, Billy, and Dylan will be instrumental in building not just a strong match-day team but also a strong community for the future of the program."

Roger Williams will open the 2025 XVs campaign on Saturday, Sept. 20th, when they travel to take on Stonehill at 7:00 pm.  The Hawks will then host Salve Regina on Saturday, Sept. 27, at 11:00 am.
