DARTMOUTH, Mass. – The Roger Williams University Men's Cross Country team competed in both the Gold and Navy 8K races at the UMass Dartmouth Corsair XC Invitational on Saturday, with several Hawks setting personal bests and first-years making their collegiate debuts.
In the Gold Race the Hawks finish 16th overall out of 32 teams with 496 points, nine away from 15th place SNHU. In the Navy Race the Hawks finish 10th overall out of 17 teams.
In the Gold Race, Nathan Evans (Lincoln, R.I.) paced RWU with a time of 25:58.97. He was followed by Colin Czuchra (Oxford, Conn.), who ran a personal best of 26:39.67. Justin Dickson (Londonderry, N.H.) crossed next in 27:00.36, with Ryan Cotugno (Melrose, Mass.) (27:25.17) and Kyle Tarpy (Haverhill, Mass.) (27:32.85) close behind. Joshua Soucy (Manchester, N.H.) also recorded a new PR at 27:45.46, while first-year Cole Walker (Cumberland, R.I.) made his varsity debut in 27:59.34. Gabriel Huff (Ledyard, Conn.) rounded out the Hawks' Gold lineup with a 28:34.20 finish.
In the Navy Race, first-year Tate Midora (Marlton, N.J.) led the Hawks with a time of 27:17.75. Fellow first-year Andrew Frenette (Dighton, Mass.) (29:11.71) and Sean Rowland (Riverhead, N.Y.) (30:40.17) each turned in strong performances in their first 8K. Vedanth Penumatsa (Nashua, N.H.) clocked 29:16.84, followed by Colby Winn (North Andover, Mass.) in 29:43.19. Dylan Hovey (Old Lyme, Conn.) (30:40.83) and first-year Colin Marsanico (Floral Park, N.Y.) (31:05.39) capped off the RWU contingent in the Navy race.
Roger Williams will return to action on Friday, Oct. 3 at the Paul Short Invitational in Bethlehem, PA.
