BRISTOL, R.I. – The Roger Williams University (RWU) Wrestling team was ranked eighth in in the New England Wrestling Association (NEWA), while five Hawks earned recognition in the NEWA individual rankings.
Roger Williams (11-5) sit just behind Western New England who finished seventh and Wesleyan in sixth. Vermont State University – Castleton sits atop the team Dual Meet rankings, while Johnson & Wales and Coast Guard following in second and third. Williams and Springfield rank fourth and fifth respectively.
In addition, five Hawk were selected to the Individual rankings, with
Matthew Castillo (Port Washington, N.Y.) leading the way at fourth at the 149 pound slot. The Hawks also saw
Jack Forte (Westbury, N.Y.) and
Jayden Toppan (Gloucester, Mass.) ranked fifth at 157 and 285 weight classes respectively, with
Joshua Nieroda (West Suffield, Conn.) was seventh at 184 pounds, and
Matt Gish (Cromwell, Conn.) rounding out the RWU recognition in eighth at 165 pounds.
Roger Williams will turn their attention to the Wildcat Open on Saturday, Jan. 24 ahead of hosting Plymouth State and Bridgewater State for Duals on Saturday, Jan. 31 beginning at 10:00 am.
