ASHAWAY, R.I. – The Roger Williams University Equestrian Team earned a third place finish on Saturday at Hunter Ridge Equestrian, at a show hosted by the University of Rhode Island on Saturday.
The Hawks earned 24 points to take third, with the High Point Champion honors split between Brown and URI, each with 31 points, while Johnson & Wales finished with 28 total points.
In the Open Equitation on the Flat, Alexandra Macdonald (Norwood, Mass.) earned a fourth place fnish, while also competing in the Intermediate Equitation over Fences, where she earned first place in section A. Lindsey Savioe (Tolland, Conn.) earned third place in section A, while Mila Weilbaecher (Maryville, Tenn.) finished fifth in section B.
In the Intermediate Equitation on the Flat, the Hawks saw Emma Gaeckle (Southampton, N.Y.) and Weilbaecher finish fourth and fifth, respectively, in section A, while Lily Scarth (East Setauket, N.Y.)earned a fourth-place finish in section B.
Entering the Limit Equitation over Fences, Leah Folco (Smithfield, R.I.) earned second in section A, while Sarah Strzegowski (Westford, Mass.) placed fifth. Scarth again earned a fourth-place finish in section B. in the Limit Flat, Gianna Graves placed sixth in section A, while Ella Dumais (New London, N.H.) and Savioe finished fourth and fifth, respectively, in section B. Annika Ormsby (Devens, Mass.) earned a second-place finish in section C.
In the Novice Equitation on the Flat, Nina DeGrandi earned a fifth-place finish in section A, while Mya Buendia (North Andover, Mass.) placed fourth in section B. Rounding out the show for the Hawks was Grace Braga (Barrington, R.I.), who placed sixth in the Pre-Novice Equitation on the flat.
"Our Hawks showed good improvement in their first spring competition," said Head Coach Dirk Fogg. " Athlete focus was strong and team camaraderie was high, helping to produce consistent results."
The Hawks will compete next at Sunflower Meadows in Tiverton, R.I., at a show hosted by Johnson & Wales on Saturday, Mar. 14.
